Our Doctors consult with parents and evaluate children for care of hyperactivity. Once ADHD is diagnosed by a psychologist, our doctors recommend 3 to 6 months ADHD checkups to evaluate the medicine efficacy and check for any side effects.
Diagnosing ADHD in children
Roughly half of children with ADHD in the USA are diagnosed by their pediatrician – If you suspect your child may have ADHD, the best first action is to book an appointment for your initial consultation. Here we’ll talk with you and your child to understand their symptoms and make a professional recommendation.
It’s important to note that if your child has some hyperactivity and impulsive behavior, it’s not necessarily ADHD. There can be other causes of this type of behaviour, so we can refer your child for testing to confirm their diagnosis.
The test is based on behaviour rating scales and checklists in most cases.

What is ADHD?

Attention deficit disorder, or ADHD is a condition which is characterised by trouble maintaining attention, hyperactive and impulsive behavior. Children with ADHD struggle to concentrate over long time periods. They’re often easily distracted by other stimuli and restless which can make it difficult for them to complete tasks quickly. It’s estimated that 9.4% of children between the ages of 2-17 in the USA have been diagnosed with ADHD.
When translated into a classroom or learning environment, this can cause the child to struggle in absorbing the information presented to them. If you notice these behaviors in your child, it’s important to check with a professional to ensure that they are properly diagnosed and if needed, helped to manage their symptoms.
At Katy Memorial Pediatrics, we’re here to equip you as a parent with the tools and support you need to give your child the help they need. If you suspect your child has ADHD, or is already diagnosed, there’s a number of ways we can help you.
